The SPECTRUM Art Walk on September 14 honored the life of Blaze Bernstein, the 19-year-old victim of a 2018 Orange County hate crime. Blaze was gay and Jewish, and the grandson of a Holocaust survivor. Tributes to @blazebernstein including a fresh herb garden inspired by his love for cooking 🌱, a killer drag show featuring @rubellaspreads, @theindicasativa, @maebeagirl, and @beingbaden 💋, and a display of his grandfather's personal collection of work by Mar Vista artists. The Bernstein family are much loved Mar Vista neighbors and huge supporters of the local arts. The Bernstein family's “Blaze it Forward” Facebook Page has become a refuge of sorts for people who seek acts of kindness and those who want to perform such acts. At our SPECTRUM Art Walk, there were several activities honoring Blaze's memory.
